CHEBOYGAN – As we continue to do polls throughout the summer, here’s another one.
This week, you’ll have a chance to cast your vote on who should be the Cheboygan Daily Tribune’s 2023-24 girls athlete of the year. The poll opens at 4 a.m. Wednesday and closes at noon on Saturday, July 20.
Here’s a look at the nominees:
Bella Ecker, Cheboygan – Competing in volleyball, basketball and track and field, Ecker earned all-conference in all three. She also capped her high school career in style, qualifying for the Division 2 state finals in the high jump.
Amelia Johnson, Cheboygan – The Daily Tribune’s 2023 volleyball player of the year had a monster senior year, earning all-conference first team honors in both volleyball and softball.
Brooklyn LaBrecque, Inland Lakes – During a stellar junior year, LaBrecque, a three-sport athlete, was named to the All-Ski Valley Conference first team in volleyball, basketball and softball.
Gracie Beauchamp, Mackinaw City – In basketball, Beauchamp earned the Northern Lakes Conference and Daily Tribune player of the year honors, while also securing a spot on the AP’s Division 4 all-state basketball team as an honorable mention.
Charlotte Box, Onaway – Box played two sports this past school year – and was strong in both. As a result, she made all-conference in basketball and softball. Box was named to each of the Daily Tribune’s all-area first teams as well.
Lanie Irwin, Pellston – The Pellston three-sport athlete had a solid year in volleyball, basketball and softball, earning all-conference accolades in all three.
