CHEBOYGAN – It was one heck of a year for Cheboygan-area athletics.

When it comes to many of the boys athletes who competed during the 2023-24 high school sports year, they had seasons to remember – in multiple sports.

    1. Aidan Fenstermaker, Inland Lakes – A rockstar of a three-sport athlete, Fenstermaker had a huge year in football, basketball and baseball.

In football, he was named to the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association 8-Player Division 1 all-state first team and helped lead the Bulldogs to a state runner-up finish. In addition, he was named the Ski Valley Conference’s player of the year and the Daily Tribune’s player of the year.

In basketball, he earned All-Ski Valley Conference honors. Then, he closed it all out with a great baseball campaign, earning Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Division 4 all-state honorable mention recognition.

He was outstanding in everything he played and won multiple titles along the way.

And he’s got a year left.

T2. Connor Wallace, Inland Lakes – Fenstermaker was excellent in multiple sports, but not too far behind him was his elite baseball teammate, Connor Wallace, who for a third consecutive year earned MHSBCA all-state first team honors following a remarkable senior season. Not only that, but the Ski Valley and Daily Tribune player of the year competed in the MHSBCA East-West all-star game in Detroit in June.

But Wallace didn’t just thrive in baseball.

He also managed to earn All-Ski Valley honors in cross country and basketball. Whatever sport he plays, Wallace ends up being a leader and one of the best performers out there.

Wallace will continue his baseball career at Grand Rapids Community College.

T2. Jadin Mix, Onaway – Talk about running the gauntlet with multiple sports, Mix was most notable for it during his final year at Onaway.

In cross country, he earned All-Ski Valley honors.

In basketball, he had a monster senior campaign, being named the Daily Tribune’s co-player of the year and earning an honorable mention nod on the Associated Press Division 4 all-state team.

After basketball, he competed in both baseball and track and field. In track, Mix finished off his career in style, earning all-state accolades with a fourth-place finish in the 300 hurdles in Hudsonville.
