Members of the business community, customers and the Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce gathered at Northwest Salmon Smokehouse in downtown Chehalis Thursday morning to celebrate six months of operation for the family-owned enterprise.

After taking over the space previously owned by Bartel’s Clothing, Frank and Danielle Pfannes were able to make one of their dreams come true by opening the Northwest Salmon Smokehouse and Artisan Market in February of this year at 486 N. Market Blvd.

In addition to specialty smoked fish, cheeses and spreads, the menu also includes summer salads, pulled pork, jerky and a variety of sausages — kielbasa, bratwurst and foot-long hot dogs.

“We now offer a full menu in the café, as well as our specialty of in-house smoked salmon,” Frank stated in a news release from the chamber. “We also have a variety of panini presses.”

Frank grew up along the Columbia River and comes from a family of avid fishermen. He has been making and selling smoked fish since 2017.

Other products sold at Northwest Salmon Smokehouse are part of its artisan market of local makers and artisans, many of whom are also on hand Saturdays during the fall and winter months.
