Wenatchee builder and developer Flint Hartwig is campaigning to bring his business principles to Chelan County government in the race for District 3 commissioner. Hartwig, 45, says he'll retire soon from his post as co-owner and manager of Eider Construction, a Wenatchee Valley building concern that put up an estimated 200 residential units last year. He says the county's management of building permits is slowing needed housing growth in the valley, and wants to address it if elected to replace departing Commissioner Tiffany Gering.

WENATCHEE—The Columbia River Drug Task Force (CRDTF) acquired $150,000 in grant funding from the Washington State Department of Commerce. Pioneer Fire grows to 23,500 acres, trails closed
STEHEKIN — Level 3 evacuations were expanded north toward Stehekin and more trails were closed this week as the Pioneer Fire continues to grow. The Level 3 zone — the most urgent of evacuation levels — ends less than a half-mile from the remote community at the west end of Lake Chelan and includes at least three structures, according to Chelan County’s emergency evacuation map.
