Chelan County – State fire assistance has been mobilized under the Washington State Fire Services Resource Mobilization Plan in support of local firefighters working to contain the Balsam Root Fire located in Chelan County, near the city of Wenatchee. Jury convicts Wenatchee messianic leader of assaulting former partner
WENATCHEE — A Wenatchee-based faith leader was convicted Friday by a jury of physically abusing his girlfriend. The 12-person jury in Chelan County Superior Court found Isaac David Heckman, 50, guilty of two out of three counts of second-degree assault. Heckman is the pastor of the Assembly of Called-Out Believers, a messianic congregation.
Fire danger ratings on the rise in Chelan County
With soaring temperatures anticipated this July 4th weekend, the county fire marshal is raising fire danger ratings in Chelan County. Fire danger ratings refer to how fire-prone the natural conditions are. The danger ratings are being raised from high to very high in the Chelan Valley Zone and from moderate to high in the Chelan County Mountain Zone. In Chelan County, there are four ratings: moderate, high, very high and extreme.

A 53-year-old former King County middle school teacher is cleared of wrongdoing in Chelan County after prosecutors dropped charges against him in a rape and assault case. Darren D. Hunter was accused of sexually assaulting a woman at his home in Chelan during a drug deal in July of last year.

The Okanogan Wenatchee National Forest is reminding visitors about fireworks as the 4th of July approaches. "The main message for us is, come enjoy the national forest but leave your fireworks at home, because fireworks, exploding targets and other pyrotechnic devices are illegal in the national forest," said National Forest spokesperson Robin DeMario.
