Firefighters Battle Against 2 Growing Fires With Hazy Conditions
Firefighters continue the battle today against two big fires burning in the area as they anticipate more gusty winds and hot dry conditions. Highway 12 remains closed from the top of White Pass to Oak Creek as firefighters try and get a handle on the Rimrock/Retreat Fire started Tuesday afternoon on private property in the Rimrock Retreat/Trout Lodge area. The blaze then spread into the forest with the blaze now burning more than 8,000 acres. US Highway 12 remains closed because of downed power lines, trees, and boulders. All evacuation notices remain in place and there's no estimated time when Highway 12 will reopen.

Colfax Restaurant Incubator Set To Open With Wild Ember Kitchen
After years of work and planning Colfax’s restaurant incubator is ready to open with its first tenant. Wild Ember Kitchen is set to have its grand opening on August 17th inside the old Washington Federal building on Main Street. The Colfax Downtown Association bought the building and remodeled it into a restaurant space. The organization is using funds from a 2.3 million dollar Washington State Department of Commerce grant to develop the restaurant incubator. That grant was allocated in the fall of 2022.
