Chelsea’s Haley Trotter scores double figures in North All-Stars win over South

MONTGOMERY – The reigning queen of Shelby County basketball put her mark on North-South All-Star Week with a big performance in the week’s annual girls basketball showcase.

Chelsea’s Haley Trotter scored 12 points for the North All-Stars in the girls basketball North-South All-Star Game at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex in Montgomery on Tuesday, July 16.

Trotter’s double-digit evening off the bench was a key part of a dominant 87-46 win for the North over the South All-Stars.

The Hornets rising senior scored the second-most points on the North and the third-most in the game behind only the game’s two MVPs: Good Hope’s Ava McSwain with 17 for the North and Park Crossing’s Siniya Johnson with 14 for the South.

Trotter had an efficient 5-for-7 shooting performance from the floor, but just as she typically did for Chelsea last season, her impact was not limited to just scoring.

She ended the evening with four rebounds, including three offensive boards, three steals and two assists to round out a complete performance. Trotter also did not turn the ball over in the 17 minutes she was on the floor.

Her big performance for the North All-Stars came after a season full of memorable moments with Chelsea.

Trotter averaged a double-double with 18.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, and she also was a defensive force with 52 blocks and 78 steals on the year.

Those numbers were good enough to secure her Shelby County Player of the Year honors along with spots on the Class 7A All-State Second Team and All-County First Team.

Trotter’s performances played an important role in Chelsea’s run to the Elite Eight to cap off a 26-6 season.

The Hornets will now make a move to Class 6A and look to make a similar impact there as they have for the last couple of years in Class 7A.

Trotter was selected to the North-South All-Star Game as one of the top rising seniors in the state of Alabama across all classifications. 15 players from the northern region of the state were selected along with 15 from the south to square off in the annual showcase event.
