A library on Wheels Comes to the Chenango Forks District

CHENANGO FORKS, N.Y (WIVT/WBHG) – Summers are a busy time and the Chenango Forks Book Mobile wants to make it easier and more accessible for kids to read books during their summer break.

The Chenango Forks Book Mobile is in its second year of providing free books to local kids living in the district. The Book mobile drives around Forks’ neighborhoods and lets kids pick their favorite book to keep. But, it’s more than just taking a book, children and their families are encouraged to stay, and make a craft, listen to a story, and even enjoy a snack.

“For us to be able to come to them versus them having to try and get library cards or find a convenient library or to get books that are new to them is a really important thing too because, we know that a lot of kids probably have a ton of books at home that they’ve read through and don’t want to read anymore, so this is a nice way for them to be able to see us and for us to see them. And then for them to get some new books for the summertime,” member of the Book Mobile Committee, Sara Brooks said.

The Book Mobile is actually a re-purposed bus with shelving to hold the books. Most of the books in the bus are donated by other teachers and families. The public can donate books via the donation bins and little libraries around the campus.
