56th annual Cheney Rodeo rides into town this weekend

CHENEY, Wash. - Grab your cowboy hats and get ready for the 56th annual Cheney Rodeo this weekend.

The rodeo begins Friday at the Bi-Mart Arena. Gates open at 5 p.m. The rodeo kicks off at 7 p.m. with roping, racing, and riding of all kinds.

Rodeo announcer Al Parsons has led the Cheney Rodeo for fifteen years. Parsons travels to rodeos throughout the country, but he says there's something special about Cheney.

"One of the things about Cheney is the comradery between the entire committee, myself, the clown, and the parade that's going to be kicking off Saturday as well," said Parsons.

Tickets are $35 for both Friday and Saturday single-day passes. Sunday tickets are $30 for adults and $20 for children 12 and under. Children 3 and under are free as long as they are seated on a lap.

You can purchase tickets in advance on the Cheney Rodeo website.

"The lake can wait. You've got all summer for that. This is one time a year, three days, and if you've missed out on this you've really missed out on one of the greatest weekends of your life," said Parsons.

There will be a dance after the rodeo Friday and Saturday nights to the Out West Band until 2 a.m. Entry to the dance is $5 at the door.

Saturday morning, the Cheney Rodeo Parade will march through downtown Cheney starting at 10:30 a.m. The parade will happen on 1st street from K Street to Cocolalla Street.

Before the parade, you can catch Dallas Kay Music live on stage between Ree Creations and Wild Bill's Long Bar from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Vendors will also be set up in the Cheney Federal Credit Union parking lot and on College Avenue from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Fun continues Sunday with Cowboy church at 9 a.m. followed by the Rascal Rodeo at 10 a.m. Bi-Mart Arena gates open at 2 p.m. with the rodeo kicking off at 4 p.m.

Parking at the arena is free for rodeo ticket holders only. There is no tailgating allowed.

Seating is not guaranteed when you buy a ticket. There is no re-entry into the event after you pass through the gates.
