Crews continue to fight flames of Columbia Basin Fire

TYLER, Wash. -- Fire crews are continuing to fight the Columbia Basin Fire burning in Tyler on Sunday evening.

The 220-acre fire burning about 10 miles outside of Cheney started on July 26.

As of July 28, the fire is 0% contained, and is believed to have burned three homes and five outbuildings, according to the Department of Natural Resources.

On Sunday morning, Level 3 (Go Now) evacuation levels were removed for people in the area, according to Spokane Regional Emergency Communication.

"Crews are working the interior of the fire, working on any hazardous trees and looking to get some water on any hotspots that are remaining," said Ryan Rodruck of DNR.

DNR said it is confident the perimeter around the fire is strong and that it will not spread.

People living along Columbia Basin Highway should remain alert and ready to leave at a moment's notice depending on fire activity and weather conditions.
