Severe Drought Impacts Albemarle, Greene, Madison; Extreme Conditions in Augusta
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The U.S. Drought Monitor reports that as of Tuesday, 37% of Virginia is experiencing severe drought, with 11% in extreme drought. Albemarle, Greene, and Madison counties are among those in severe drought. Rockingham, Shenandoah, Augusta, Page, Warren, and Frederick counties are facing extreme drought conditions. While recent rain showers have provided some relief, meteorologists indicate that significant improvements are still needed to overcome the drought situation. The prolonged dry spell has raised concerns about water supply and agricultural impacts across the Commonwealth.
Virginia man convicted in 2021 Marion murder
A Virginia man was convicted of first-degree murder, and other charges, for the 2021 murder of Teresa Greer. 40 year old Jason Whittaker was convicted of first-degree murder, abduction, arson, and animal cruelty. His sentencing is scheduled for November 21 where he will be facing a maximum of two life sentences plus 15 years. Greer’s body was found in a fire-damaged home in Marion on North Chestnut Street.
