Cherokee County Seniors Receive Free Health Services

Cherokee County seniors received free health services at the first Wellness-On-Wheels Health Fair event hosted in partnership with Cherokee County Senior Services and CareSource.

This event, which was held June 25 at the Senior Center in Canton, drew a crowd of about 100 seniors. Offerings included non-urgent medical care, vision and behavioral health care at no cost.

“We were recently contacted by CareSource asking us to partner in hosting a health fair event that would be funded through a grant,” said Cherokee Senior Services Director Tim Morris. “We jumped at this opportunity because it allowed us to provide health care to our homebound clients who are normally unable to conveniently access these services.”

Last fall, CareSource awarded the local nonprofit Volunteer Aging Council/Stand Up for Seniors a $12,500 grant to support the health fair. The Volunteer Aging Council applied for the grant on behalf of Cherokee County Senior Services.

In addition to the health services offered, the event featured numerous health care vendors along with lunch provided by Jersey Mike’s.

“We are so excited to have partnered with Cherokee County Senior Services in providing free health care to the community,” said CareSource Georgia Chief Medical Officer Dr. Minh Nguyen. “We hope to continue this partnership and offering this event in the years to come.”
