The city of Woodstock is proposing a maintenance and operations millage rate of 5.223 mills, which will require an increase in property taxes by 2.855%.

This proposed millage rate is 0.145 mills more than the “rollback rate” of 5.078 mills, the one needed to produce the same property tax revenue as the previous year.

According to the city, if the proposed rate is approved, a home with a fair market value of $475,000 would expect to pay about $27.55 more than the rollback rate. For a non-homestead property with a fair market value of $350,000, the increase is about $20.30.

In June, the Woodstock City Council passed a city budget for fiscal year 2025 of $80.6 million . The budget, 10% smaller than last year’s, includes a citywide cost of living raise for employees and merit increases that are scheduled to start in April.

Last year, the council passed a fully rolled back rate of 5.125 mills. The 2022 rate was 5.693 mills.

Three public hearings are scheduled to receive public feedback on the proposed tax increase.

♦ 7 p.m. Aug. 12, at the Woodstock City Council meeting

♦ 6 p.m. Aug. 19, before the Woodstock City Council work session

♦ 7 p.m. Aug. 26, at the Woodstock City Council meeting

The council is scheduled to vote on the millage rate Aug. 26, after the last public hearing.

All three meetings will take place at the Chambers at City Center, 8534 Main St. in downtown Woodstock.
