Cherokee County E 9-1-1 has received Agency Training Program Certification, a Project 33 Initiative, from the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials International.

E 9-1-1 was recognized during APCO’s recent Annual Conference and Expo, the county announced.

Cherokee County E 9-1-1 first received its Agency Training Program Certification in 2013 and has successfully re-certified every three years. This is the first year of certification for Heather Bradberry, E 9-1-1’s new training manager.

“I am extremely proud of our training team for continuing to keep our dispatchers well trained and ready for any emergency they answer,” said E 9-1-1 Director Shane Bonebrake. “Many don’t know how rigorous the training program is for our E 9-1-1 dispatchers. All dispatchers and management are certified by the Peace Officers Standards and Training Council and participate in not only initial in-house training but also continuing education throughout their career.”

Emergency Communications Centers and agencies use the APCO International Agency Training Program Certification as a formal mechanism to ensure their training programs meet APCO American National Standards. Initial and continuing training for public safety telecommunicators is important as they provide essential services to the public in an expanding and rapidly changing environment.
