The Cherokee Family Violence Center recently won a $2,500 first place prize in the Cherokee Association of Realtors’ inaugural Charity Pitch Battle.

The event, which took place Aug. 14 at The Timbers on Etowah in The Mill on Etowah in Canton, featured an audience vote that determined the winner. The winning charity received a donation of $2,500. An additional $500 was awarded to each of the four other Cherokee County charity competitors: Cherokee County Homeless Veterans, Dominic’s Mission, Limitless Disability Services and North Georgia Angel House.

“Our Charity Pitch Battle was a resounding success,” Shannon Johnston, CAOR’s communications coordinator, said in an email. “The event brought together our passionate realtor members and local organizations who collaborated on pitches to our attendees about the meaningful impact they make on our communities. The energy in the room was palpable, with each pitch highlighting the creativity and commitment of our participants. The event fostered a sense of partnership and shared purpose, reminding us all of the power of collective effort in supporting the amazing work these organizations do.”

The event was for CAOR members only and was not open to the public due to limited space. Members were asked to nominate their favorite Cherokee County charity and explain their involvement with the charity. The selection was then narrowed down to the top five charities.

The selected charities collaborated with the nominating realtor member to come up with a skit, video, etc. to be presented or “battled” at the event.

“I have never been so proud of the association and the people involved in it,” CAOR President Mike Stott said at the event. “To meet the five charities that were the finalists for the 2024 Charity Pitch Battle — what commitment, what passion, what beautiful work they do for our community.”
