A sinkhole is causing traffic delays on Old Highway 5 in Holly Springs. City of Holly Springs

Drivers traveling along Old Highway 5 near Seth Ridge Drive should expect traffic delays due to a sinkhole that opened at the intersection, the Holly Springs Police Department announced Friday.

Due to this sinkhole, the northbound lane is closed. Northbound traffic is being routed through the center turn lane.

"There was erosion overnight under the northbound lane of Holly Springs Parkway across from Seth Ridge Drive," Holly Springs City Manager Rob Logan said. "The erosion occurred where two corrugated metal pipes join a concrete stormwater drainage structure on the east side of the roadway. The two corrugated metal pipes are scheduled for replacement next week in the stormwater construction project on Holly Springs Parkway."

The contractor has ordered the replacement stormwater pipes and hopes to have the pipes next week, Logan said.

Northbound traffic will continue to be routed through the center turn lane until the pipes have been replaced.
