Service League Awards Scholarships to Cherokee County High School Grads
The Service League of Cherokee County recently awarded scholarships to 35 graduating seniors from local high schools. These scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $2,300, are designed to support the recipients in furthering their education, whether at a four-year university, technical school, or vocational program. Cherokee County History Center Offering Free Admission to Educators
Throughout the month of July, History Cherokee is offering those working in education free admission to the Cherokee County History Center. Educators visiting the center will need to show a school ID. Friends and family visiting the center with an educator will be admitted for $5 per person. This offer is available to all teachers, school administration and support staff at all public and private educational institutions. The History Center is located at at 221 E. Marietta St. in downtown Canton. History Cherokee’s Teachers Free Admission month is sponsored by the Cobb EMC Foundation and American Book Company.
COED Awards Grants to LaunchPad Bootcamp Graduates

Cherokee Sheriff's Office Asking For Help Finding Missing Woman
The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help finding a woman last seen June 30. Elexus Latasha Washington, 31, was last seen June 30 on Highway 92 near Bells Ferry Rd in Woodstock. She is 5’1” and about 150 pounds, and has brown eyes. She is pictured with black hair but now has blonde hair, according to CSO. She was last seen wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt. Boil Water Advisory Lifted for Waleska Water Customers
A boil water advisory issued Friday for parts of the city of Waleska's water service area has been lifted, the city announced. The following areas were under an advisory, if they had low pressure or were without water Thursday evening: Canyon Ridge, Mountain Crest, Camden Woods, Sam Nelson Road, Reinhardt College Parkway and Byrd Mountain. Cherokee County Hearing From Residents on Property Taxes
Cherokee County has held its first public hearing on its maintenance and operations millage rate for fiscal year 2025, and two more are set for July 16. County commissioners have advertised a M&O millage rate of 5.224 mills, up from the current rate of 4.954. This rate determines property taxes that go to the county’s general fund. One Lane Will Be Closed on Part of Hickory Road July 9
Traffic delays are expected on Hickory Road in Holly Springs July 9 due to road work. One lane of Hickory Road is scheduled to be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 9 between the Town Center roundabout and Hickory Springs Industrial Drive. Core samples will be taken there in preparation of a bridge foundation investigation report, the city reported. “We are planning to replace the existing culvert under Hickory Road with a bridge next year,” Holly Springs City Manager Rob Logan said. “The Geotech contractor will have flaggers on-site from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. to direct traffic through the construction zone.” The contractor will close down one lane of the roadway at a time as needed.
