    Swimming advisories have been issued in Virginia

    If you are swimming in the Commonwealth, please be advised that some locations are off-limits. After Memorial Day, at least 15 people, including teens and children, tested positive for E. coli after swimming in Lake Anna.

    The Virginia Department of Health tested the water and deemed bacteria levels normal, but it did not explain the illnesses. Due to a harmful algae bloom, the VDH has also extended a swimming advisory in parts of Lake Anna extended a swimming advisory.

    The Virginia Department of Health regularly checks for enterococci bacteria, and according to The Virginian Pilot, they have deemed that the Oceanfront of Virginia Beach from 22nd Street to 37th Street does not meet state water quality standards.

    A swimming advisory has been issued, meaning swimming and wading are prohibited until further notice. This includes water near the famous Neptune Statue and boardwalk.
