Blair Underwood flipped the script on his character

Actor Blair Underwood spent his teenage years in Virginia, attending Petersburg High School. He attended Carnegie Mellon School of Drama in Pittsburg and debuted in the 1985 film Crush Groove. He portrayed Jonathan Rollins in LA Law 1987 and appeared in films including Posse and Set it Off.

Deadline has revealed that Underwood was initially offered a stereotypical role on S*x and the City but turned it down. His character would be paired with Kin Cattrall's Samantha Jones, who would explore what it would be like romantically with a Black man.

Underwood said he would not portray a stereotypical character and later was offered the role of Dr. Robert Leeds, who dated Cynthia Nixon's character Miranda Hobbs. He was in six episodes, and race was never mentioned.
