CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — An apartment fire in Chesapeake has left 11 people, including four children, displaced.

When crews arrived on the scene, they found smoke coming from a third floor apartment. Residents of the units were able to evacuate before firefighters arrived.

Crews sprayed the fire with water and had it under control by 10:28 a.m.

The fire was contained to just one room due in part to the third-floor apartment’s sprinkler system.

Fire, smoke and water damage in one family’s apartment has left three people, including a child, without a place to stay. Two other families, including three children, were also displaced due to significant water damage in their apartment homes.

One of the families is receiving assistance from the Red Cross.

Officials are working to determine the cause of the fire.
