Incoming Simmons Undergrad Selected for Journalism Initiative
Incoming Simmons student Tristan Ortiz ’28 was accepted into the Youth Arts Journalism Initiative Class of 2024, a project sponsored by the Arts Council of Greater New Haven, Connecticut. Ortiz will spend the summer writing articles for the Council’s website.
HVFC Tells a Story of Safety at Brainerd Library
(July 17, 2024) — On July 9, 2024 members of the Haddam Volunteer Fire Company brought fire safety and a little fun to some of Haddam’s youngest residents. During “Children’s Storytime” at Brainerd Memorial Library, HVFC Captain Joshua Meyer read “The Little Firetruck” by Margery Cuyler, “Flash the Little Fire Engine” by Pam Calvert, and “Fire Truck” by Peter Sis.

BETHLEHEM — Nonnewaug High School alum Jess Davis is heading to the 2024 Olympic Games to represent Team USA in the modern pentathlon. Davis hails from Bethlehem and punched her ticket to Paris after placing fourth in the modern pentathlon at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. She graduated from Nonnewaug in 2010 as a track and field star before attending Central Connecticut State University.

HVFC Responds to Motor Vehicle Accidents Hours Apart
(July 17, 2024) —- On July 13, 2024, the Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to back-to-back motor vehicle accidents on Saybrook Road (Route 154). At 4:35 p.m., HVFC was dispatched to Tylerville for a two-car accident. Two patients were evaluated on scene and refused additional medical treatment. Both lanes of Saybrook Road were closed for about an hour while crews removed the vehicles and cleaned debris from the road.
