LIST: Back-to-school events happening around the Midlands
Believe it or not, summer vacation is coming to a close, and Midlands students will be heading back to school over the next few weeks. Multiple businesses and organizations in the area are doing what they can to make sure students are prepared as they head back to the classroom. We've compiled a list of many of these events:

Pfizer shutting down operations at 2 NC facilities; more than 200 losing jobs

Three Rivers Land Trust helps Patterson family protect 405-acre farm from development
Working with the Three Rivers Land Trust, the Patterson family has protected a large tract of land north of Harmony from development. Three Rivers Land Trust has worked with three separate landowners and their families over the years to conserve over 1,535 acres in this area. This effort began in 1999, with the protection of 640 acres of the Daltonia Plantation. In 2011, the Grose family conserved their adjacent farm which totaled over 490 acres. On July 26, the Patterson family added to that legacy by conserving an additional 405 acres.
Morgan Locklear ’25 awarded prestigious Udall Scholarship
Furman University health sciences major Morgan Locklear ’25 of Lake Wylie, South Carolina, is a 2024 recipient of the Morris K. Udall Scholarship. Awarded to only 55 undergraduates from 50 colleges and universities in the United States, the $7,000 scholarship supports Native Americans and Alaska natives pursuing health-related careers or who are working on tribal policy issues. The scholarship is also open to students of any ethnic background who are interested in conservation and environmental issues.
Five Arrested After Execution Of Search Warrant In Chester County
GREAT FALLS, S.C. – Five people, four of whom were wanted, were arrested and drugs were seized in a search warrant in Chester County on Friday morning. Deputies executed the search around 6 a.m. at a home on Church Street in Great Falls. It resulted in the arrest of Darius Barnes, Nancy Shackelford, Belinda Bruce, Melvin Boggs, and Dillon Trotter.
