Mountaineers even Governor’s Cup series with big comeback
On a beautiful baseball evening across the state, the Upper Valley Nighthawks hosted the Vermont Mountaineers in the sixth installment of this season’s Governor’s Cup series. Despite trailing 5-0 early, the Mountaineer scored 10 unanswered runs to win the game 10-5 and even the series at three games each.
Gillian Welch, David Rawlings Announce Album And U.S. Tour, Share New Song
Folk country duo Gillian Welch and David Rawlings have announced a new album, Woodland, due out on August 23 on the pair’s Acony Records. This is a follow-up to their Grammy-winning 2020 covers album, All The Good Times (Are Past & Gone). Woodland is Welch’s first album of original material since 2011’s The Harrow & the Harvest, and Rawlings’ first since 2017’s Poor David’s Almanack. Welch and Rawlings shared the first single lifted from their new album, “Empty Trainload of Sky,” while also announcing an extensive U.S. tour that kicks off on July 23 in South Burlington, Vermont, and finishes up on December 5 in Port Chester, New York.

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — The 25th edition of a summer tradition in Lake Placid brought several people to cheer on some of the best athletes in the world. The Lake Placid IronMAN featured fans flooded across Main Street cheering on triathletes as they traversed through the 140.6 course of swimming, biking and running. 2 seriously injured after 3-vehicle crash in Westmoreland, NH
Two people were seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash in Westmoreland, New Hampshire Sunday. New Hampshire State Police responded to the intersection of Route 12 and River Road North around 12:38 p.m. when a Toyota Sienna struck a 1980 Fiat Spider waiting for traffic to pass before turning left. The impact pushed the Fiat into the oncoming opposite lane where it was hit by a 2002 Ford F-350. The driver of the Sienna, Kim Carrier, 46, of Swanzey, New Hampshire and a child inside the Toyota was not injured. The driver of the Fiat, Peter Friedrichs, 67, and his passenger, Irene Friedrichs, 73, of Keene, became trapped in the vehicle with serious injuries.
