A highway construction inspector for PennDOT shared that a new sinkhole has appeared at the intersection of Ashbourne Road and New 2nd Street in Cheltenham Township. According to the inspector (who happens to be a resident of Elkins Park), the sinkhole has been “gestating for a long time” via a decayed stormwater pipe and measures roughly 8’x3’x5′.

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (CBS) -- Toll booths will soon be a thing of the past on the eastern and northeastern portions of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.Officials spoke more about the upcoming switch to "open road tolling" on July 24.The cashless, free-flowing mode of collecting tolls eliminates the need for separate toll lanes and booths. All you'll need to do is drive under a collecting gantry and have your EZ Pass mounted if you pay that way."You don't have to do anything different, your tolls will still be collected, sent to you in mail if you're toll-by-plate or deducted from your EZ Pass account," said Craig Shuey, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission's chief operating officer.  The commission says the new approach will help keep traffic moving — and make the highway safer.Open road tolling will take effect on Jan. 5, 2025 on all parts of the turnpike east of Reading and on the Northeast Extension.PennDOT wants you to make sure you mount your EZ Pass tag in your vehicle and have all your information including your vehicle and credit card updated.Toll booths for the remainder of the PA Turnpike, from Reading and westward, will be eliminated in 2027.

Philadelphia man among 2 killed in plane crash near site of air show in Wisconsin
A Philadelphia man and a man from New York have been preliminarily identified as the victims of a fatal plane crash near the site of an airshow in eastern Wisconsin.The bodies of Sean Tommervik, 37, of Philadelphia, and James G. Sullivan, 32, of Brooklyn, were found Monday in the wreckage in a farm field, the Winnebago County sheriff's office said Wednesday in a release."Official medical examiner confirmation will take additional time," the sheriff's office said. "However, after the initial investigation, there is no reason to believe the occupants were anyone other than Mr. Tommervik and Mr. Sullivan."They were the only people aboard the Lancair Super ES which was owned by Tommervik. First responders found the plane fully engulfed in flames in the field in the town of Nekimi. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.The plane crashed about 2 miles south of the site of the EAA AirVenture air show at Oshkosh's Wittman Regional Airport. Monday was the first day of the 71st AirVenture, a weeklong event scheduled to include military aircraft demonstrations and forums with combat pilots, aircraft designers and NASA astronauts, the Oshkosh Northwestern reported.

Chad Taylor is a "first call" drummer who is also a composer, band leader, jazz historian and scholar who was recently appointed to lead the University of Pittsburgh Jazz Studies Program. He came up in Chicago as a founding member of Jazz Underground, and worked in the Chicago jazz scene with the likes of trumpeter Rob Mazurek and saxophonist Fred Anderson. In the New Millennium, he has been active and in demand for gigs in New York, Philadelphia, and many other locales and has formed his own groups.
