There might be plenty of summer vacation left to go, but one Massachusetts lawmaker alreadyb is urging Bay State school districts to plan ahead in one big way. This week, U.S. Rep. Jake Auchincloss, D-4th District, called on the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to encourage school districts to share federal resources on safe firearms storage with parents and others.

Detached house in Northampton sells for $930,000
A historic house located at 311 Prospect Street in Northampton has new owners. The 1,740-square-foot property, built in 1900, was sold on June 10, 2024, for $930,000, or $534 per square foot. The layout of this two-story house includes three bedrooms and one bath. Inside, a fireplace enhances the ambiance of the living area. Additionally, the house provides an attached garage. The lot of the property covers a substantial area of 6,403 square feet.
Fewest ever contested state legislative primaries in Massachusetts
Massachusetts has 33 contested state legislative primaries on September 3, 2024, the fewest since Ballotpedia started tracking in 2010. There are 27 contested Democratic primaries and six contested Republican primaries. For both parties that is below the average from 2010 to 2022. The average number of contested Democratic primaries was 36.9 and the average number of contested Republican primaries was 8.3.
