CHESTERHILL — Federal Hocking High School senior, Emma Lucas, will present her project, Lancer Pride: Honoring Local History, from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the Multicultural Genealogical Center, 7540 Marion St., Chesterhill.

This project included recording local oral history, hosting a local history day event, and sharing lessons with grades pre-K-12 that promote local history with tools to talk about race and promote anti-bias. Lucas received a grant through the African American Community Fund of the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio/ I’m a Child of Appalachia Fund/FAO.

Lucas has lived in this area her entire life. She is a direct descendant of Michael and Hannah Tabler, the first people to settle in what became Tablertown. One of the many things Lucas is involved in is interning at the Public Defender’s Office. She hopes to pursue a career in law beginning at Ohio University in the fall. Upon graduating from law school, she plans to return here to serve her community. Lucas loves this area and truly believes it is unique and special, so is passionate about doing whatever she can to serve the community that has done so much to support her.
