CHESTERTOWN — The Feline Fun Fest is just one of the many creative events for the two week National Music Festival that concluded Saturday.

On Sunday, the festival celebrated the late Nora the Piano Cat, an “amazing, spunky, real-life piano playing cat,” a YouTube star in fact.

Not only was the cat talented tickling the ivories, but she was also the mascot for the entire 12 years the National Music Festival has come to Chestertown.

It was a good turnout on High Street on Sunday, June 8, drawing almost 70 people on a lazy afternoon.

In front of Hogan’s Insurance, was a raffle of many fun cat-related prizes, for kids and adults. All proceeds went to support the Cat Colloquium, the Kent County Humane Society and the National Music Festival.

This year, said volunteer Sara Mossoff, they had the pleasure of introducing Nora to the crowd as an animated TV show designed to show kids the joys of having fun creating music.

Parents of Nora, Betsy Alexander and Burnell Yow were present for the event and will also be in attendance as Lithuanian composer and orchestra conductor Mindaugas Piečaitis puts on the Catcerto on Saturday, 7 p.m. at the Decker Theatre, Gibson Center for the Arts, Washington College.

The Festival Symphony Orchestra will play while Nora will be shown on a huge screen behind them.

The buzz about Nora and the raffle also drew visitors to the Cat Coloquium.

Volunteer Anne Marie Walters smiled expressing there was a line forming to see the 13 cats they have.

Nora merchandise was sold, there were art activities for the kids, face painting and even animal adoption applications.

Stam’s Luncheonette was open for business and the stage program featuring Alexander, encouraged the kids to sing along.

“Nora is always here in spirit,” one fan said, admiring the big television screen set up on 219 High St to display the cat’s prowess.
