Katie Montgomery to take over as Bain Elementary principal

CHEYENNE – Katie Montgomery has been hired to be the new principal of Bain Elementary following approval at the June 24 Laramie County School District 1 Board of Trustees meeting.

Montgomery began her career in LCSD1 as a kindergarten teacher at Goins Elementary. While at Goins, she also taught math during summer school and was a fifth-grade teacher. Additionally, she was a summer school behavior intervention specialist for the South triad.

In 2019, she joined the Prairie Wind Elementary staff as a fifth-grade teacher, switching to teach fourth grade in 2021. During the 2022-23 school year, she was Anderson Elementary’s behavior intervention specialist.

This school year, Montgomery served as dean of students at Anderson. In that role, she met with teachers and parents to ensure student learning. If teachers or students needed assistance, she helped through feedback, collaboratively creating academic and behavioral interventions, and communicating progress to all stakeholders.

Montgomery was also East High’s assistant track coach from 2015-17.

The decision to recommend Montgomery to the Board of Trustees was based on a thorough hiring process, which included an interview and recommendations from a diverse selection committee, according to a news release.
