As we get closer to the fall months, I love finding places that serve comforting, hearty meals. One of my favorite types of food is Polish cuisine, which brings me to my next stop: Bacowka in Schaumburg.

This restaurant is located in a strip mall. You'll notice a nice patio in front as you walk up to the entrance. It was extremely hot on the day I visited, so I chose to sit inside. The interior is very modern, and we opted for a side table in the dining room area, close to the bar.
One of my only complaints about this restaurant is that the chairs, while great-looking and modern, are not very comfortable to sit in.

As I looked over the menu, I saw many classic and traditional Polish dishes. I decided to try their Polish Plate.
The Polish Plate came with Polish sausage, sauerkraut, pierogies, mashed potatoes, a potato pancake, and stuffed cabbage with meat.

I decided to share this plate with my wife. I'm glad I did because the portion was quite large.
The Polish sausage was absolutely delicious, with a nice snap and juicy texture. The pierogies were also very good; the ones we received were all meat, which is my favorite. The potato pancake was tasty and not overly greasy. The stuffed cabbage was a little firmer than I’m used to but still delicious.
The sauerkraut had a sour but delicious flavor. The mashed potatoes were also good. Even after splitting the dish with my wife, I still felt very full. Although this was a portion meant for one person, as I mentioned, it can easily be shared. I found it to be quite a satisfying dish. I would’ve liked it to come with sour cream or applesauce. I’m sure I could have asked for these, but the restaurant seemed rather busy, and there appeared to be a language barrier. I was fine with what I received.

There is one other thing I wouldn’t even call an issue. Since this place is so authentic, most of the staff does not speak English as their first language, so there is a bit of a language barrier. The young girl who brought us water did not speak any English. We were greeted by someone I assume was either the owner or the manager. Even though her English was limited, we were able to communicate enough to place our order.

I really enjoyed this place and would like to try it again in the near future, possibly sitting on their patio when the weather is a little cooler.
The food was very good and felt authentic. I definitely think this is a place worth checking out if you enjoy authentic Polish food with good presentation and flavor.
I give Bacowka in Schaumburg a rating of 7.5 out of 10.
