Second Annual Community Blood Drive/Resource Fair/Free Hearing and Retinal Screenings
The Lions mobile hearing and retinal screening unit will be coming to the Beecher Community and conduct free hearing and retinal screenings on August 3, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Beecher Fire Department, 711 Penfield Street in Beecher. The mobile screening unit is sponsored by the local Lions Club and the Lions of Illinois Foundation and is made possible through your generous donations.

Peotone Police Blotter: July 11-18
On July 11, at 9 p.m., Peotone Police were requested to meet with a complainant standing by at the police department in reference to a harassment complaint. The officer responded and met with the complainant, who advised they were being harassed via email and other electronic accounts by an ex. After hearing the complainant’s concerns, the officer supplied the complainant information on how to obtain an order of protection if they chose to do so.
Hazardous waste collection coming to Central Illinois in September
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — If you have hazardous waste, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is making it easier for you to get rid of it. The Illinois EPA is hosting numerous hazardous waste collections in partnership with local governments this fall. On Sept. 28, you can get rid of your waste at McLean County Fairgrounds in Bloomington.

The numbers are pretty remarkable: The National Weather Service confirmed, more than two dozen tornadoes touched down across the Chicago area last Sunday and Monday.Five of those were here in the city.The tornadoes brought down trees and damaged buildings. Whiting Park Festival Orchestra kicks off Summer with the Symphony 2024 season with concert celebrating Mother Nature’s power
On the cool evening of Saturday, July 20, the Whiting Park Festival Orchestra (WPFO) performed the first concert of its Summer with the Symphony series at Whiting Lakefront Park’s Mary E. Bercik Memorial Pavilion. The theme of this free concert was “Don’t Mess with Mother Nature!” Attendees set up their lawn chairs and folding tables on the grass in front of the pavilion, either enjoying snacks from home or snacking on treats from the concession stand. Martin Dybel, general manager of the WPFO, founded the orchestra alongside conductor Maestro Robert Vodnoy in 1999. Dybel also established the Summer with the Symphony concerts in 1994 and believes that the program has had a significant positive impact on the Whiting community.
