USC's Caleb Williams & Group 'Do Not Want' Chicago in Draft

It appears that gone are the days where college players are simply happy to get drafted to any NFL team, as FS1's Colin Cowherd states that USC quarterback Caleb Williams, the projected top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, doesn't want to get drafted to the Chicago Bears.

With the Bears holding the No. 1 overall pick and Williams the consensus best player in the draft, there is a thought that Chicago could move off Justin Fields and select Williams.

“I do think it’s possible that Washington trades up, and Chicago allows Washington to trade up,” Cowherd said on The Herd . “Because Caleb and his group do not want to go to Chicago. He’s from the D.C. area, the big concern for Caleb Williams is and you have to admit this, where you land matters. Chicago has never developed a star quarterback.”

Cowherd is right, where you get drafted matters. If Patrick Mahomes had of gotten drafted to a place other than Kansas City where he had Andy Reid as head coach and also had receivers in Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce, would he have progressed the way he has? Possibly.

For Williams, the Bears are an up-and-coming team and as Cowherd points out, aren't exactly in the business of developing quarterbacks as Fields has struggled throughout his time there.

So, if Williams doesn't want Chicago, Washington feels like the most obvious choice given he is from the D.C. area.

Add to that, the Commanders' offense has some nice pieces and they have a lot of cap room to use in order to bring in some decent free agents if they so choose to.

While Williams wants to realize his NFL dream, he doesn't want that realized in Chicago and this kind of knowledge likely doesn't get out into the public eye unless it is wanted to be.

Chicago might have the No. 1 overall pick, but the consensus No. 1 overall pick doesn't want them.
