(670 The Score) Though the White Sox are starting over once again with a rebuild this season, they have a core piece still in place who they hope can lead their future forward.

That is All-Star center fielder Luis Robert, who finally enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2023 and positioned himself as the face of this White Sox organization. Manager Pedro Grifol has seen his appreciation for Robert grow in their time together.

“I’ve had a few players in my career that I would never even dream of setting goals for, just because you don’t know what their cap is,” Grifol told reporters on Monday. “I’m always hesitant to say, ‘OK, this is the goal’ and limit him to that when he’s got a heck of a lot more. He’s one of them. He had 38 homers last year. He had a great year. I don’t know what he can do on a baseball field. The most important part is he wants to be great.”

Robert, 26, hit .264 with 38 home runs and 80 RBIs over a career-high 145 games. He was a 5.0-win player, according to Fangraphs.

The White Sox have Robert under contract through 2027 with a pair of club options in the final two years of his deal. He signed a six-year, $50-million contract with the team in 2020.

The White Sox open their Cactus League schedule Friday afternoon when they take on the Cubs.
