(670 The Score) The Bears have hired Jennifer King as their new assistant running backs coach, making her the first female coach in franchise history.

The hiring of King and five other Bears coaches were made official Wednesday.

"To be a first in such a historic organization is a special moment," King said in a statement through the team's website. "To be a part of that culture that's in the building is exciting. I think we're going to do some really cool things and I'm definitely excited for the upcoming season."

King is one of 12 female coaches presently working in the NFL. She previously coached with the Panthers (2018-'19) and Commanders (2020-'22) alongside head coach Ron Rivera.

King, 39, met Rivera at the NFL's Women's Forum in 2018 and was later hired on to his coaching staff as an intern.

"She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our football team," Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said. "She has a contagious spirit and coaches the game with immense passion. We are looking forward to working with her and seeing the positive impact that she will have on the Chicago Bears."

The Bears on Wednesday also officially announced the hirings of running backs coach Chad Morton, wide receivers coach Chris Beatty, offensive passing game coordinator Thomas Brown, assistant offensive line coach Jason Houghtaling and assistant quarterbacks/receivers coach Robbie Picazo.
