Mike Florio on Caleb Williams: 'This guy gets it'

(670 The Score) USC star quarterback Caleb Williams made a strong impression on Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk at the NFL Combine last week.

“I came away from 10 minutes with him on Friday thinking, ‘This guy gets it,’” Florio said on the Mully & Haugh Show on Tuesday morning. “He understands that it’s a craft like anything else. He needs to work at it. He needs to study it. He needs to push himself to improve. He will evolve as a player over the years. He’s very aware of that. A lot of the guys, just getting into the NFL, they don’t talk that way. They don’t understand that. Now, does it guarantee 15 years of success? No. But it was the unknown. We knew what he could do on the field. We didn’t really know him as a person .”

Williams is widely expected to be selected by the Bears at No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft, though Chicago is continuing its quarterback evaluations and needs to host Williams for a visit and conduct a medical evaluation of him.

Williams won the Heisman Trophy in 2022 at USC, then followed it up by throwing for 3,633 yards, 30 touchdowns and five interceptions in 12 games in 2023.

“Williams looks like he’s a winner, and he could be that first franchise quarterback the Bears have had since Sid Luckman,” Florio said.
