Bernstein & Holmes: Should the Bears have playoff expectations in 2024 season?

(670 The Score) On the Bernstein & Holmes Show on Friday, Laurence Holmes and Leila Rahimi pondered whether the Bears should have playoff expectations in the 2024 season.

Chicago bolstered its roster in free agency and with the addition of six-time Pro Bowl receiver Keenan Allen in a trade. The Bears also hold the No. 1 and No. 9 overall picks in the NFL Draft, where they're expected to select USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the top pick.

So what should we expect with a rookie quarterback set to be under center? Should a playoff berth be the standard for the Bears in 2024 after they went 7-10 last season?

“It’s interesting when you look at how this is set up,” Holmes said. “The general manager and the head coach are in a place now where if there isn’t some winning, the fan base is going to be justifiably angry.

“It feels like it should be time for that now.”

Holmes expanded on how he expects the Bears to frame the conversation.

“I don’t think the Bears are going to necessarily come out in July and start selling the idea that they should be a playoff team, especially because they have a rookie quarterback," Holmes said. "But I do think it’s fair for a Bears fan to cross their arms and tap their foot and be like, ‘Hey, are you guys going to win now?’ Because it’s the NFL. This isn’t baseball. This isn’t where you got to really be bad for a while to try to get good. Development in baseball takes a lot of time."
