(670 The Score) Asked what success looks for his White Sox as they’re set to open the 2024 season with low expectations from the outside , general manager Chris Getz started with a simple answer.

“We certainly want to establish a cleaner style of baseball,” Getz said on the Mully & Haugh Show on Thursday morning. “I think White Sox fans deserve that, they’re looking for that.”

The White Sox will begin that quest when they host the Detroit Tigers in their season opener at Guaranteed Rate Field on Thursday afternoon. The White Sox are coming off a 101-loss season, during which longtime lead executives Kenny Williams and Rick Hahn were fired. Getz was then installed as the lead baseball executive in late August, and he began overhauling the roster in the offseason with a focus on playing better defense.

Still, the White Sox have big question marks in an unproven starting rotation and with an offense that performed poorly in 2023. Despite those concerns, Getz is enthusiastic about what’s to come.

“You certainly want to feel like we are moving in the right direction, building toward something special,” Getz said. “You look at some of these projections and these wins totals, I understand. I get it. But also, if you really look, kind of look behind the curtain a little bit and look at Garrett Crochet, what does this look like as a starter? It could play out this way, it could play out that way. You’ve got Mike Soroka, and the outcomes could be really positive. You look at Erick Fedde, coming from the KBO into the rotation here, his tremendous season over there and he gets this opportunity. You look at that group in itself and you’re like, ‘All right, this could be really exciting.’ Obviously, it needs to play out a certain way. We’ve got some new faces in the bullpen in different roles. You got a (Andrew) Benintendi, you’ve got an Eloy Jimenez and a Yoan Moncada and a Luis Robert and an Andrew Vaughn, if we keep these guys healthy and posting on a regular basis and keep them truly engaged as a core group offensively, that’s a pretty good group right there. And then you look at our defense and how sound I feel like it’s going to be up the middle, which is such a strong indication of what direction a team is going to go. There’s some real pieces to like here and interesting stories. You know, I think it will be a fun opportunity to see how this plays out. There’s plenty to like on this team, and I look forward to watching like everyone else and seeing what we’re capable of doing as a group.”
