(670 The Score) Bears great Steve "Mongo" McMichael was hospitalized Wednesday, his publicist told reporters.

Details regarding McMichael's condition weren't immediately shared, and he was still undergoing testing. He has been battling ALS since 2021.

"The McMichael family is asking for prayers," his publicist wrote in the statement.

McMichael was hospitalized back in February with a urinary tract infection and MRSA. He was released to his home after an eight-day stay.

A star defensive tackle who played for the Bears from 1981-'93 amid his 15-year NFL career, McMichael is best known for his role in the middle of Chicago’s dominant defense in the team's 1985 Super Bowl-winning season. McMichael recorded 95 career sacks, including 92.5 sacks over 191 games with the Bears, and he earned first-team All-Pro honors in 1985 and 1987.

The 66-year-old McMichael was selected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in February as a member of the 2024 class. He will be enshrined in Canton during the induction ceremony in early August.
