(670 The Score) White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf has never considered firing manager Pedro Grifol, he told 670 The Score on Tuesday evening, in comments that were in response to a Sun-Times report that Reinsdorf acknowledged Grifol's performance was worthy of being fired in 2023 but that he didn't want to pay multiple managers at the same time.

The White Sox's struggles aren't Grifol's fault, Reinsdorf told 670 The Score reporter Bruce Levine. Earlier Tuesday, Sun-Times reporter Joe Cowley included a line about Reinsdorf's thinking about the White Sox in an article about Bulls coach Billy Donovan's future with the organization. Reinsdorf is also the owner of the Bulls.

"A source recently said that Reinsdorf — who is also the chairman of the White Sox — knew that manager Pedro Grifol had put in a fireable season by midsummer of 2023, but he wanted to wait at least a year so the dead money wasn’t as big a hit," Cowley wrote.

The White Sox went 61-101 in 2023 and entered Wednesday at 1-9 and with an offense that's off to a historically poor start.

This past offseason, the White Sox started a rebuilding process under the watch of new general manager Chris Getz, who was promoted by Reinsdorf last August following the dismissals of executive vice president Kenny Williams and general manager Rick Hahn.
