Ozzie Guillen after White Sox start 2-14: 'I feel for Pedro Grifol'

(670 The Score) With the White Sox off to a historically bad start at 2-14 while scuffling offensively, manager Pedro Grifol is in a difficult position.

Grifol can only seek improvement from the players he has on the White Sox's roster, many of who are enduring great struggles individually. The White Sox have been shut out six times in their first 16 games, joining the 1907 Brooklyn Superbas as the only teams to reach that troubling mark. Key players like first baseman Andrew Vaughn and left fielder Andrew Benintendi are among those hitting under .200, and the White Sox collectively have a .196 batting average.

Former White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen sees Grifol in an unenviable situation leading this team.

“I feel for Pedro,” Guillen said on the Mully & Haugh Show on Wednesday morning. “Maybe that’s the first time. Pedro has his hands tied up. He does. You can make the lineup, you can try fixing the lineup, you can try thinking about the lineup, but every day they respond the same way.

“I like the way he made the lineup (Tuesday). He said, you know what, I'm going to sit (Andrew Vaughn down). Whatever excuse you make – like, I want him to have a day off, I want him to clear his mind. No, (Gavin Sheets) is better than you right now. You got to move on. In this game, you’re not thinking with your heart, you’re thinking with your brain. It’s no hard feelings. It’s something you hate to do but you don’t have any choice.”

The White Sox host the Royals in a doubleheader Wednesday at Guaranteed Rate Field after their game was postponed by rain Tuesday.
