(670 The Score) The Cubs are currently dealing with injuries to ace Justin Steele, right-hander Kyle Hendricks, left-hander Jordan Wicks, center fielder Cody Bellinger and right fielder Seiya Suzuki, but through it all, they're in first place in the NL Central.

Those injuries along with a tough nine-game West Coast road trip have meant that it's no small feat for the Cubs to be 18-11 entering play Tuesday, as second baseman Nico Hoerner said.

“It has been impressive,” Hoerner told the Parkins & Spegel Show on Tuesday. “I think sometimes when you’re in the middle of it, it can be hard to do like more reflective thinking like that.

“It’s been an interesting, challenging but really positive month for us.”

Steele and Hendricks are set for rehab assignments at Triple-A Iowa this week, while Bellinger and Suzuki have ramped up their activities recently.

The Cubs visit the Mets on Tuesday evening at Citi Field in the second game of their four-game series. With a victory, the Cubs can extend their franchise record with a 19th win before the start of May.

“Absolutely, we’ll take it,” Hoerner said. “We love where we’re at as a group and I do think we’re going to get better.”
