Bulls to Hire Wes Unseld Jr. as Top Assistant Coach

Earlier this month, the Chicago Bulls saw the departure of Josh Longstaff and Maurice Cheeks from their bench staff , leaving head coach Billy Donovan’s top assistant role open. After a diligent search, according to ESPN Senior NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski , the Bulls chose Wes Unseld Jr.

Wes Unseld Jr. spent the last three NBA seasons as the head coach of the Washington Wizards. In nearly three full seasons, Unseld Jr. led the Wizards to a 77-130 record, missing the postseason entirely.

Before that, he spent 16 years as an assistant coach with Washington, the Golden State Warriors, and Orlando Magic. Unseld Jr. worked with Mike Malone in Denver before he got his first head coaching job, giving him a wide variety of experience.

According to K.C. Johnson, Wes Unseld Jr. was one of Arturas Karnisovas’s candidates for the Chicago Bulls head coach position before Billy Donovan was hired.

Unseld Jr. brings much experience to the Chicago Bulls' bench and has been part of winning organizations before, filling a crucial void on Billy Donovan's staff.
