(670 The Score) Cubs left-hander Shota Imanaga’s historic start to his MLB career continued Saturday.

By throwing seven scoreless innings his club’s eventual 1-0 win against the Pirates, Imanaga lowered his ERA to 0.84, which marks the lowest figure for any pitcher in MLB history through the first nine starts of one’s career since ERA became an official statistic in 1913, according to MLB.com.

Imanaga’s excellence has made him the early front-runner in the mind of Jon Heyman of the New York Post and MLB Network.

“Unbelievable gets the Cy Young every time,” Heyman said on the Mully & Haugh Show on Monday morning. “(Phillies left-hander) Ranger Suarez has been really great, but we haven’t seen anything like Imanaga since Fernando Valenzuela.

“Imanaga is the clear, clear Cy Young winner (right now). There’s no question about it. It’s amazing what he’s able to do throwing that 92-mph fastball at the top of the zone and nobody can touch it.”
