(NATIONAL) — 93% of Americans love hot dogs, according to a new study by US Foods . There is some debate, however, about what constitutes the perfect hot dog—and which topping is best.

Opinions about hot dog toppings tend to correspond with region, the study found. For example, people in Chicago are against the idea of ketchup on a hot dog, but in Florida, ketchup is the preferred hot dog topping for most people. People in Colorado prefer chili on their hot dogs, while many other states believe yellow mustard, relish, or onions to be the top topping.

84% of people would disagree with folks from Chicago, saying that ketchup is an acceptable hot dog topping. However, 73% nationwide prefer mustard.

The study found that Americans eat an average of 2 hot dogs per month and are willing to spend an average of $5.88 on the traditional culinary treat.

Finally, the survey asked an age-old question: “Is a hot dog a sandwich?” and found that 33% of us believe a hot dog is indeed a sandwich, but the majority (67%) say it’s not.
