Following an improved 11-8 stretch, the Chicago White Sox have regrettably reverted to a state of dismal performance. The 4-1 defeat to the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday marked the conclusion of the first third of the season. With a current record of 15-39, the White Sox are on track for a mere 45 wins, the worst in franchise history. They're losers of nine of their last 10 games.

First-year starter Garrett Crochet performed well against one of baseball's best offenses. The lefty tossed six innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He issued one free pass and fanned eleven. Orioles backstop Adley Rutschman's two-run homer in the sixth was the only blemish on the day and broke his streak of 24 innings pitched without allowing a run.

    Dreadful

However, the Sox hitters had a dreadful afternoon and provided no run support for their starter. O's starter Kyle Bradish pitched seven no-hit innings, fanning 11 and walking four. The Pale Hose broke up the potential combined no-hitter when Danny Mendick launched a solo homer with two outs in the eighth off Danny Coulombe. Mendick's blast supplied the only hit on the afternoon for Chicago.

    Tongue Lashing

Following the game, an incensed Pedro Grifol met with the media and called out his team's performance. Grifol didn't single out anyone in particular but shared some strong words.

"I don't have much. Crochet pitched his ass off. We got no-hit through 8 (actually 7). We had a pinch-hitter break it up. The rest of the guys… Not the rest of the guys. Most of the guys were fucking flat today. Unacceptable. That's all I got."

White Sox players had mixed reactions to their manager's sentiments. Catcher Korey Lee didn't hold back when asked to comment on his skipper's reaction.

"I'll let him comment on his statement. He's going to feel that way and obviously we have a different feeling. He is entitled to his own opinion . I think that's a valid reason. It's nothing to hide about that ..."
