Jake Woodford Joins White Sox with Mike Clevinger Injured

The Chicago White Sox made a trio of roster moves involving pitchers ahead of Tuesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. With Mike Clevinger headed to the 15-day injured list with an elbow issue, the Sox selected Jake Woodford's contract from Triple-A Charlotte. The club designated Sammy Peralta to clear a 40-man roster spot for Woodford.

Clevinger had a delayed start to his encore season with the White Sox as he didn't re-sign until April 4. Through 16 innings spanning four starts, the right-hander owns a 6.75 ERA and 1.938 WHIP with 15 strikeouts against nine walks.
Now dealing with right elbow inflammation, Clevinger will be on the shelf for a couple of weeks. His placement on the IL is retroactive to May 25.

Woodford signed a minor-league deal with the White Sox in the offseason and began the season with Triple-A Charlotte. The 27-year-old notched a 5.26 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, and 42 strikeouts against 17 walks in 49.2 innings across 10 starts down on the farm.
Though Woodford is joining the White Sox for the first time, he brings 80 games of MLB experience, including 18 starts, from his time with the St. Louis Cardinals. The righty touts a 4.29 ERA and 1.370 WHIP across 184.2 innings at the big-league level.

Hello, goodbye, hello, goodbye. That's an accurate summary of Sammy Peralta's recent experience with the White Sox organization.
After appearing in 16 games for the Sox last season, Peralta was designated for assignment on Opening Day 2024 before the Seattle Mariners claimed him off waivers. Seattle gave Peralta the same treatment on May 23, leading to the White Sox nabbing him back via waivers .
Now, Peralta adds yet another DFA to his transaction log — such is life for a fringe pitcher when roster pinches arise.
