Chicago White Sox pitching allowed 13 hits and issued eight walks on Tuesday, resulting in their seventh straight loss. Jake Woodford made his White Sox debut in place of scheduled starter Mike Clevinger, who was a late scratch against the Toronto Blue Jays.

"Any time you give up eight free passes and 13 hits, you're going to have a tough night," Chicago manager Pedro Grifol said.

The Blue Jays grabbed a lead shortly after the game was delayed 40 minutes by rain in the Chicagoland area. The Jays plated all the runs they needed to win Tuesday night's contest in the second inning.

    Runs Rain In

Isiah Kiner-Falefa's double drove in George Springer, who singled. Kevin Keirmaier's walk set the stage for Davis Schneider's double that brought home both runners.

"The second inning got away from me a little bit," Woodford said. "Comes down to execution. Didn't execute a couple of sliders and they didn't miss them. I felt I was able to settle back in after that and get us through a couple of innings."

The White Sox' starter surrendered three runs on five hits in 4.1 innings of work.

Schneider drove in a run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly to score Springer. In the eighth, the Blue Jays tagged lefty Tim Hill for three runs on back-to-back singles by Bo Bichette and Justin Turner. Hill allowed six base hits in the frame.

    A Futile Enterprise

Nicky Lopez got the Pale Hose on the board with a third-inning RBI double, and Andrew Vaughn drove in Zach Remillard for the White Sox' second run in the 7-2 loss. The White Sox have scored four runs in their last three games.

Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman allowed one run in six innings on four hits and one walk.

"Not great," Gausman said. "Nothing's gonna wow you looking at the box score. But I though we did a good job of pitching and making pitches in the spots that were big for us to make, so that's what I was happy with."

    News and Notes

The White Sox placed Mike Clevinger on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation. The injury's severity will not keep him out long-term.

Luis Robert Jr. started his rehab assignment in Triple-A Charlotte and homered in his first at-bat.

Tuesday's game included a second rain delay in the bottom of the ninth that lasted 68 minutes.
