The Chicago White Sox swapped outfielders Sunday by placing Andrew Benintendi on the 10-day injured list and recalling Oscar Colas from Triple-A Charlotte. While Benintendi recovers from left Achilles tendinitis, Colas is set for his first significant big-league action this season.

Andrew Benintendi exited early from Saturday's game due to his lingering left Achilles issue. The veteran launched a home run before his puzzling premature departure.

Benintendi, the recipient of the largest free-agent contract in White Sox history, has been a massive disappointment since putting on the black and white. The 29-year-old owns a .195/.230/.284 slash line and has produced -1.6 fWAR, making him the least valuable qualified player in MLB this season.

Benintendi wouldn't blame his Achilles soreness on his brutal start to the 2024 campaign, though it likely played a factor in his putrid defense. Now, he'll go on the shelf for at least a week to recover and hopefully reset.

Oscar Colas is no stranger to the big leagues despite spending most of this season with Triple-A Charlotte. The Cuban outfielder earned a spot on the Opening Day roster last season but produced a dismal .216/.257/.314 slash line coupled with spotty defense, resulting in multiple demotions to Charlotte.

Colas briefly joined the White Sox this April but logged just one plate appearance before heading back to Triple-A. In 46 games with the Knights to begin the season, Colas slashed .244/.358/.406 with five home runs and 21 RBIs.

Now back with the big-league club, he'll look to improve his standing with manager Pedro Grifol, who's been critical of the 25-year-old's performance.

The White Sox can only hope that Andrew Benintendi's recovery leads to improvements when he eventually returns to the field. Oscar Colas must maximize any opportunity he gets because Pedro Grifol's leash has been historically short for the second-year player.

Colas will bat seventh and play right field when the White Sox face the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday. First pitch is at 1:10 PM CT and the game will air on NBC Sports Chicago .
