The Chicago Cubs have quite a few holes to fill. Specifically on offense, the team lacks true corner infielders. Cody Bellinger makes for a solid first baseman, but it seems the Cubs plan to play more in the outfield.

Christopher Morel has been the everyday third baseman, but the Cubs can still use an upgrade at the hot corner. Fortunately, the underperforming Toronto Blue Jays have a player who checks the boxes at both positions.

While Pete Alonso would be an intriguing trade target, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. might be even better. On Sunday, the 25-year-old made his first start at third base since 2019. Surely the Blue Jays are showing teams he can be called upon in multiple roles if needed.

After a rough month of May, the Cubs need additions to their lineup. If they don't fall further down the standings, Guerrero Jr. could be the perfect trade-deadline addition.

He's still young enough for the Cubs to add to their core and can play the positions that have plagued them since the departures of Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo.

The slugger's .291 average would provide an instant jolt to the North Siders' lineup. Guerrero Jr.'s power output (five home runs) might be low this season, but he's shown in the past that he's capable of adding significant pop to a lineup.

Blue Jays' general manager Ross Atkins recently downplayed trade speculation, but hanging around last place in a tough AL East should force his hand closer to the deadline. Atkins may also just be driving up the price for prospective suitors.

If the Cubs are willing to make a splash, they have the prospects to facilitate a deal with the Blue Jays. Guerrero Jr. is among the many players who make sense in a potential trade with the Cubs. Danny Jansen and Jordan Romano are others to keep an eye on.

The bottom line is that the Blue Jays are an ideal trade partner for a Cubs team with so many needs. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. should be a top priority for Jed Hoyer to get his team rolling again.
