(670 The Score) The Cubs are mired in a difficult stretch amid a disappointing season, as they fell to five games under .500 for the first time in 2024 with a 7-6 loss to the Giants on Monday.

The Cubs are searching for solutions to snap a skid in which they've lost 17 of their past 24 games, but manager Craig Counsell doesn’t believe that losing his cool is one of those. Counsell has no plan to use anger to spark his club, even if that's what some fans would like to see.

“Are there days that we’re frustrated? Yeah, absolutely,” Counsell said on the Parkins & Spiegel Show on Tuesday afternoon. “Yeah. Do losses hurt? Yeah, absolutely they hurt. But temper tantrums don’t get us wins. That’s just a fact. So, let’s really just direct our energy toward the ways to help guys get in a better place. We haven’t been successful at that in this little stretch right here, and we got to do a better job with it.

“(But) we do understand the fans' frustration, absolutely, and you feel it. And I do feel it’s important to speak to it.”

The Cubs host the Giants on Tuesday in the second game of their three-game series at Wrigley Field. Pregame coverage starts at 6:30 p.m. on 670 The Score, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on the 670 airwaves or by downloading the Audacy app.
