Bulls Trade Rumors: Kings Showing Interest in Zach LaVine, Alex Caruso

    By Matt Berklan,

With the NBA Finals in the books, teams are starting to look to next season and how they can improve. The Chicago Bulls as currently constructed are trending toward another NBA Play-In Tournament exit and need to make some changes this offseason.

Some of those moves could come on the trade market, where rumors and reports are aplenty. It's long been reported that Zach LaVine wants out of Chicago. The Bulls have tried to shop him at various points but haven't received an offer with the return they are looking for.

But as offseason rumblings pick up, the Sacramento Kings have inquired about Bulls guards LaVine and Alex Caruso, per Matt Moore of Action Network . A potential return could include Harrison Barnes and Kevin Huerter, whom the Kings are looking to move, along with draft capital.

Getting any kind of draft capital and a veteran player for Zach LaVine would be a win for the Bulls. It's evident that things aren't working out in Chicago , but there hasn't been much of a market for LaVine to this point.

The Kings need a star to pair with De’Aron Fox, and LaVine would provide a scoring touch to Sacramento's offense. Alex Caruso would be a great defensive anchor for a Kings team that doesn’t have one.

On the Bulls' end of this hypothetical scenario, Harrison Barnes, a veteran presence , can contribute each night without detracting from DeMar DeRozan or Coby White. Huerter would bring three-point shooting competency , which the Bulls desperately need.

Perhaps the most impactful element of a potential trade, landing a draft pick would help the Bulls replenish lost capital past overpays in the trades to acquire DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic.

That all sounds great in theory, but the Bulls are still the Bulls. A veteran player and a draft pick isn't enough value for LaVine. Furthermore, the Bulls reportedly rejected an in-season trade offer for Caruso that included a top-10 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

If history tells us anything, the Bulls will overvalue their assets well before they see the writing on the wall.
